Jacoba (Cobe) Johanna Oosterwijk Bearnson passed away peacefully on February 10, 2010, surrounded by her family.
She was born March 28, 1921 in Rotterdam, Holland to Cornelis and Helena Oosterwyk. She married Krijn van Wijngaarden in Rotterdam, Holland in November 1942. Soon after World War II broke out her husband was kidnapped by the German Army. For two years during the German occupation she was alone, not knowing if her husband was dead or alive. He returned at the end of the war and passed away in May 1952. After several years as a widow she married Adriannus (Dutch) van Eckelenburg in July, 1957. They bought a new house and Jacoba started her own business. After nine years Dutch passed away suddenly from a heart attack in June of 1966. She then married G. Everett Bearnson in June 1969 and have been together ever since.
In Holland she was a dress designer with many clients. Two years after she settled in SLC she built her own business making draperies. This grew into a very successful enterprise making draperies for several interior designers utilizing nine employees.
Known for her “spit and vinegar” she also had a loving heart and great compassion even though she survived the great depression, World War II, as well as the loss of two husbands.
Survived by her husband, G. Everett Bearnson; son Arie Van Wyngaarden (Kathy); grandchildren, Angela Witzel (Bryan), Heidi Van Wyngaarden and five great grandchildren; sisters, Agnes Towler (Robert) and Cornelia Zappey (Erich).
